隨著颶風「馬修」(Matthew)即將登陸美國，歐巴馬(Barack Obama)總統在6日宣布，南卡羅萊納州進入緊急狀態。
在此之前，歐巴馬也已經宣布佛羅里達州進入緊急狀態。
颶風「馬修」在橫掃加勒比海後地區後，朝美國東南部沿海逼進，歐巴馬宣布佛羅里達州和南卡羅萊納州進入緊急狀態，下令國土安全部(Homeland Security Department)和聯邦緊急事故管理總署(FEMA)，全力協調救災工作。
馬修是近10年來侵襲加勒比海地區的威力最強颶風，截至目前至少已造成140人喪生，其中海地就占了136人。
